KIT-CATS (Krieger ITClassroom Audiovisual Technology Services) department provides support to all General Pool classrooms technology and to the Homewood Campus events. This support is for any person or department that is utilizing a General Pool classroom or event space and has requested assistance. This school year, we have provided assistance to over 850 events. An event could be a simple power point presentation hook up in a room with existing technology or it could be bringing in multiple cameras, audio console, microphones, speakers, video switchers, laptops, projectors and screens to a room without any previous support items. Our department is a small, but growing group of dedicated technicians who follow our unofficial mission statement – “Professionally executing high level events, with attention to detail, ensuring our clients’ needs are met by taking care of our team.”

We are seeking an Event Technician to join this team serving as one of the primary technicians to execute all technical aspects of all events on Homewood Campus, including Shriver Hall Auditorium.  The Event Support team works with the Multimedia Services Manager in executing all events in Shriver Auditorium and in all non-classroom event spaces and locations on Homewood Campus.  Overseeing all changeovers, load-ins and loadouts for events. May act as day-of supervisor for events, overseeing any staff, student employees and independent contractors who work during those events as stage managers or technical assistants. Executes maintenance of the audio-visual equipment for events on Homewood Campus and Shriver Auditorium.

Each year we want to expand and grow in our services provided. The next phase of growth is in the video editing area of production. This will make us a true End-to-End service provider. Currently we only do basic editing.

Minimum qualifications (mandatory): 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Additional experience may substitute to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. 
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and overtime. 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 4-8 years of professional experience in technical and logistical supervision and support for a large performance/lecture venue and/or event production with a combination of experience in theater lighting design, live event sound and theater production. 
  • Experience with video editing, ETC Lighting Console, Allen & Heath Audio Console and BlackMagic Design Video Switchers and cameras, PTZOptics Cameras 
  • Crestron DigitalMedia Certification (DMC-E-4K) and/or AVIXA CTS is a plus. 
  • Experience working with a wide range of users, including university students, faculty and staff and guest lecturers and performing artists. 

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:  

  • Certified Technology Specialist (CTS)  
  • Must have working and operational knowledge of all A/V equipment commonly used for presentation support, including consumer and professional electronics. Includes, but is not limited to,  

o Computers (Windows and Mac operating systems) and tablets (iPad, Microsoft Surface)  

o Document imaging equipment (document cameras)  

o Virtual conferencing equipment (Zoom rooms)  

o TVs, touchscreen monitors, and DVD players.  

o Digital audio recorders and mixing consoles.  

o Digital whiteboards.  

o Video and web cameras.  

o Cabling.  

o Web casting technologies.  

  • Familiarity with both Windows and Apple operating systems (Windows 7 and higher; Mac OS Sierra, and IOS) preferred.  
  • Highly knowledgeable about video meeting software (Zoom, WebEx, GoToMeeting).  
  • Experience with cloud recording service Panopto preferred.  
  • Knowledge of A/V management systems (Dante, Crestron, Extron) preferred.

  • Occasionally lifting, carrying objects weighing 50lbs 
  • Occasionally pushing and pulling objects weighing 50lbs
